“Castle of the Rose” opens August 9 for two-weekend run

Tickets are now available for Brush Creek Playhouse’s Castle of the Rose — the Real Story of the Beauty and her Beast. The opening of this year’s teen/young adult show has been delayed until August 9, but you won’t to miss this new interpretation of the classic French story of the kind and beautiful young lady and the anguished “beast” who has been trapped in his castle by a terrible curse.

Brush Creek’s production, using an original script by Emily Wood and Michael Wood, begins with the family of Belle Beauchene (who is not, in the oldest stories, an only child). But after a terrible storm and an ill-fated search for a rose, both Belle and her father encounter the castle’s beast — the seemingly young lord of the castle who has been ruling his enchanted home that vanished from the hills above the village more than 125 years ago! He is served by a handful of his original retainers, most of whom have developed a quirk or two of their own.

When Belle’s world and the Beast’s castle collide, the two begin to learn about — and appreciate — one another. But sinister forces are at work, leading to an attack by the French army that threatens to tear them apart and to end the castle’s existence forever!

Performances will be at 7 pm on August 9 (Friday), August 10 (Saturday), August 16 (Friday) and August 17 (Saturday). Brush Creek also offers 2 pm matinee performances on August 11 and August 18 (both Sundays). Reserved seat tickets are just $10 each ($8 for seniors 60 and over, children 12 and under and students) and can be purchased in advance at Brush Creek’s two ticket-selling partner locations:

All young actors and would-be actors from 13 through mid-20s are encouraged to come join the fun as the operators or this Renaissance Faire face a series of unfortunate mishaps — or are they accidents at all?

Brush Creek opens special pre-Easter dramatic presentation Thursday, March 22

Brush Creek’s second show of the season is a special event focusing on the Biblical accounts surrounding the Easter Story. Witnesses: Testimony to the Life of Jesus includes a series of dramatic monologues written and presented by Michael Wood.

These powerful stories present the story of the founding events of the Christian church, from the perspective of those who lived them. Wood first wrote his presentation of the apostle Simon Peter when he was a freshman in college and has performed it many scores of times over the intervening years. Another of the monologues, featuring the apostle Paul, uses the prolific letter-writer’s own words woven together into a unique presentation of Paul’s experience of the risen Christ.

“Whether you are a committed Christian, a person seeking to better understand the message of the New Testament, or just someone who loves a good, dramatic story, these dramatic presentations have something for you,” Wood said. “Over the years, I have found that the best way to share my own faith is by returning to the church’s roots – from the very beginning, the faith was built around the telling of shared stories.”

The performances run from Thursday, March 22, through Sunday, April 1 – including Easter Sunday – with performances at 7 pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 pm Sundays. Brush Creek is selling tickets for this special event for just $5 each. They will be available at Brush Creek’s two ticket locations: Books-N-Time on Water Street in downtown Silverton and Runaway Art & Craft Studio on Commercial Street in downtown Salem. They also can be purchased at the door 30 minutes before each performance. More information is also available by calling Michael Wood at 503-508-3682.

The playhouse is located at 11535 Silverton Road, the intersection of Silverton and Brush Creek Roads, between Silverton and Salem. In spite of the Silverton Road address, the theater’s parking lot is entered from Brush Creek Road.

Robin Hood’s Crusade for Justice begins on Friday, Feb. 16

Tickets are on sale now! Don’t miss Brush Creek’s production of “Robin Hood: Crusader for Justice” — it opens Friday, Feb 16 and runs thru Sunday, March 4. There are 4 performances each weekend, with evening shows at 7 pm on Fridays & Saturdays, and matinees at 2 pm on Saturdays & Sundays.

You can pick up your reserved seat tickets at either of our ticket-selling partners, Books N Time on Water Street in downtown Silverton or Runaway Art and Craft Studio on NE Commercial in downtown Salem. Brush Creek tickets are still just $10 ($8 for children, students and seniors), making them one of the best entertainment deals around! The remaining tickets (and 8 that we always hold to sell at the door) go on sale 30 minutes before each performance — our children & youth shows are often well-attended so if you don’t have advance tickets you’ll probably want to get there early.

This production tells the story of Robin as he grows from a somewhat irresponsible nobleman to an almost accidental outlaw. And then, with the help of Lady Marian and his band of Merry Men, he becomes a true crusader for justice in the fight against Sir Guy, the Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John.
