“The Pirate Paradise: Legend of Libertalia” runs Feb. 22 thru March 10

Brush Creek kicks off our 2019 season with this year’s children & youth performance, “The Pirate Paradise: Legend of Libertalia”

Get your tickets today!

The Pirate Paradise: Legend of Libertalia opens its 3-weekend run on Friday, February 22, with evening performances at 7 pm on Fridays & Saturdays and matinees at 2 pm on Saturdays & Sundays. The show is directed by Linda Zellner (assisted by Emily Wood) based on a script by Emily Wood and Michael Wood. The production includes two complete casts, with actors aged 5 through 17.

This twist on the typical swashbuckling tale finds an orchid-hunter from Victorian England shipwrecked on an island where he finds a lost world from the great Age of Piracy — a “pirate paradise” where democracy and equal rights for all hold sway in the midst of the usual thieving, gambling and piracy. But all is not well in Libertalia, as he soon discovers, and his arrival triggers a series of events that may very well cause the end of this “paradise” — and puts at risk the bold pirate captain who captures his heart with her spirit and her taste for risking everything on an occasional throw of the dice.

Shipboard battles, sword fights, fiery battles for the city, trials where everything hangs in the balance, a love story, and even a touch of music — The Pirate Paradise offers it all! And both our young casts (ages 5 to 17) bring the show to life with hard work, energy & enthusiasm.

Reserved seat tickets are available for $10 each ($8 for seniors 60 and over, children 12 and under, and students) at Books-N-Time at 210 N. Water Street in downtown Silverton and at Runaway Art & Craft Studio at 311 NE Commercial Street in downtown Salem. The remaining tickets for each performance are available at the door beginning 30 minutes before curtain — those interested in attending should try to arrive no later than 10 minutes before the scheduled curtain.

Open Auditions for 2019 children & youth pirate adventure

Even as our current show has audiences laughing, it’s time to think about Brush Creek’s next wonderful production!

Brush Creek will be holding auditions for actors and would-be actors up through the age of 18 to perform in the 2019 children & youth show, The Pirate’s Paradise, directed by Linda Zellner. Open auditions using cold readings from the script will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 15, and at 5 pm on Sunday, December 16 (which provides you an opportunity to catch a performance of Arsenic & Old Lace on either day!). No preparation is necessary, and the auditions are expected to last about two hours. While it isn’t necessary to be there both days, it can sometimes be useful, especially for actors who are new to Brush Creek.

The production will rehearse through January and February to open its three-weekend run on Friday, February 22. There will likely be two casts who will share a total of 12 performances (1 on Friday, 2 on Saturday, and 1 on Sunday each of the three weekends). If you want to know more about rehearsal expectations – or you are interested in being in the show but cannot make either audition date – contact Director Linda Zellner at ljzel@aol.com.

This adventure is another original script by Emily Wood and Michael Wood, who have been writing Brush Creek’s children & youth scripts for the last several years. The production has adventure, mayhem, plenty of rousing good humor – and perhaps just a touch of romance!

The Pirate’s Paradise offers an unusual twist on the typical pirate tale. Many years after the days of Blackbeard and John Morgan, Victorian England’s gives little thought to pirates. Social position, family obligations – and even the quest for the latest, most unique exotic orchid flower are of much greater concern. When professional orchid hunter Frederick Devereux sets out yet again in search of new varieties of the valuable flower, he instead discovers a paradise…a pirate’s paradise. He’d heard vague stories of Libertalia, the utopia for those scoundrels of the sea, but as a man of science and reason he dismissed the tales as romantic nonsense. So Frederick cannot help but be astonished when he not only stumbles upon evidence that the stories are true, but he actually encounters a thriving community of folks whose traditions and norms are neither those of his own society nor exactly what he’d expect from a group of ruthless buccaneers!

Frederick encounters the bold Cap’n Tsunami, the adventurous but noble Captain Reinhardt, and various other crews with their own sometimes bizarre quirks and personalities. He also discovers the seeds of Libertalia’s destruction, brought to life by Frederick’s arrival in the camp. Will the crew of the powerful ship Scarlet Reign bring an end to this pirate Utopia, or is it Frederick himself who offers the greatest threat to Libertalia’s continued existence. Can Frederick find honor among these thieves?

Snow White and the dwarfs are back on the Brush Creek stage!

Brush Creek opens 2016 season with The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White

The original fairy tale, The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White, returns to Brush Creek Playhouse to open the 2016 season on Friday, February 12. This delightful story of a beautiful young princess who faces loss and adversity through no fault of her own, only to triumph in the end is a favorite of audiences and actors alike!

The script, written by Michael Wood, uses the original Brothers Grimm tale as a foundation – although elements of the story will be familiar, those who come to the show will also find a delightful surprise or two along the way! The dwarfs alone make this a show to remember.

Brush Creek’s production is directed by Linda Zellner, who has directed the annual children & youth productions for many years. Zellner is pleased to have two complete casts, which include both veteran children’s show actors and newcomers. The cast includes beginning readers as well as teenagers.

The performances run from Friday, February 12 through Sunday February 28, with performances at 7 pm Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 pm Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets — $10 for adults and $8 for children, seniors and students with ID – will be available at Brush Creek’s two ticket locations: Books-N-Time on Water Street in downtown Silverton and Runaway Art & Craft Studio on Commercial Street in downtown Salem. They also can be purchased at the door 30 minutes before each performance. More information is also available by calling Michael Wood at 503-508-3682.

The playhouse is located at 11535 Silverton Road, the intersection of Silverton and Brush Creek Roads, between Silverton and Salem. In spite of the Silverton Road address, the theater’s parking lot is entered from Brush Creek Road.

Auditions for Ages 5 (or so) to 18 — “The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White”

Auditions for The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White
— 2016 Children & Youth Show

Brush Creek Players will be opening our 2016 season with “The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White” — but first we have to get just the right cast in place!.

Who: Young actors and would-be actors, ages 5 (or so) thru 18, regardless of experience level.

What: Auditions for The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White, by Michael Wood (returning to the Brush Creek stage following its premiere in 2009).

When: 1 pm, Saturday, December 5, — and 1 pm, Sunday, December 6.

Where: Brush Creek Playhouse, 11535 Silverton Road, between Salem and Silverton (enter the parking lot from Brush Creek Road).

Why: Because it’s fun! Take the chance to let your creative side run wild!.

The Brothers Grimm recorded the folk tale of Snow White hundreds of years ago — but you may not know the whole story. Do you think you know the story of the beautiful young princess, her evil stepmother, the seven delightfully quirky dwarfs who give her refuge, the evil spell that threatens her doom, and the prince who comes to her rescue? You may be in for a surprise or two!

Rehearsals will begin in January and run until the show opens on Friday, February 19 — it will run weekends through Sunday, March 6. We normally run four performances of the children & youth show each weekend, but we also usually run two separate casts, so it will be possible to accommodate a limited number of performance conflicts.

The production will be directed again this year by long-time children & youth show director Linda Zellner — with the support of Assistant Director Emily Wood.

“The Search for the Fairy Princess” comes to Brush Creek Friday, Feb 13 thru Sunday, March 1

Brush Creek’s 2015 season opens with this year’s children & youth show, a fun and original fairy tale.  The Search for the Fairy Princess, written by Michael & Emily Wood and directed by Linda Zellner, takes place in depression-era Nebraska and in the fairy world of Avalon. The show runs from Friday, Feb 13 thru Sunday, March, with performances at 7 pm on Fridays & Saturdays and matinees at 2 pm on Saturdays & Sundays.

Terri, Kathy and Janie learn the story of the Fairy Princess at their great-grandmother’s knee: In the tale, two sisters, Elissa and Bethany, and their friend Thomas learn about Avalon and meet fairies (both friendly and evil), goblins and trolls as they join the search for the fabled Fairy Princess. And when tragedy strikes, the search for the Fairy Princess becomes even more urgent than before.

Tickets ($10 general admission and $8 for seniors 60 and over, children 12 and under, and students with ID) will go on sale in February at our ticket-selling partners:
