“Things my Mother Taught Me” Canceled — Next Up the Melodrama!

Unfortunately, Brush Creek was not able to successfully field a cast for May’s opening of Things My Mother Taught Me. We may give it another try next year.

But Brush Creek has two more offerings for 2023:

The Rustler’s Revenge, written by D. Chapelle and directed by Norman Gouveia, will run from Friday, July 28 through Sunday, August 13. Auditions for this year’s melodrama will be held on June 4 at 5 pm and June 5 at 6 pm. Come join the fun!

And the season will close with an original adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Christmas classic. Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, written by Emily Wood and Michael Wood and directed by Norman Gouveia, will run from Friday, December 1 through Sunday, December 17. Auditions for this marvelous “ghost story”  — including roles that include singing Victorian Christmas Carols — will be held on September 24 at 1 pm and September 25 at 6 pm.

“Further MISAdventures of the Seven Dwarfs” opens 3-weekend run on Friday, Feb. 24

Brush Creek is launching its 2023 season with the return of one of our favorite shows, the Further MISAdventures of the Seven Dwarfs. This crowd-pleaser brings back the seven dwarfs for a romp through the collected tales of the Brothers Grimm. Did you know that a dwarf helped Rapunzel and her prince? Helped Hansel & Gretel escape the Gingerbread House? No? Well, then maybe you need to learn the real story.

The 2023 children & youth production is directed by Linda Zellner, whose cast is hard at work bringing the Three Little Pigs and all the others to life. The show opens on Friday, February 24 and runs three weekends to close Sunday, March 12. Performances are at 7 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with a 2 pm matinee each Sunday.

Tickets are $10 ($8 for children 12 and under, seniors 60 and over, and students) and they are available at Brush Creek’s two ticket-selling partners — Runaway Art & Craft Studio on South Commercial (CASH or CREDIT) in Salem and Books N Time on Water Street (CASH ONLY) in downtown Silverton. You can also can buy tickets at the door beginning 30 minutes before each performance.

The Further MISAdventures of the Seven Dwarfs, written by Emily Wood and Michael Wood, is performed by arrangement with Evander Dramatic Press.

Open auditions for Further MISAdventures of the Seven Dwarfs

Those crazy dwarfs are not done with their adventures! And you can be part of the fun!

Brush Creek will be holding auditions for The Further MISAdventures of the Seven Dwarfson 11 am on Saturday, December 3 and at 2 pm on Sunday, December 4.

This romp through the tales of the Brothers Grimm (written by Emily Wood and Michael Wood and performed by arrangement with Evander Dramatic Press) is great fun and has a wide variety of parts for young actors of all experience levels.

Did you know that a dwarf helped out Rapunzel and her prince? Or that two of them met Little Red Riding Hood in the woods? Or that another tried to make peace between the Three Little Pigs? No?

As always, Brush Creek’s 2023 Children & Youth Production will be directed by Linda Zellner and is open to young actors through the age of 18. Rehearsals will begin in early January and run until the play opens its three-weekend run in late February.

“The Bat” comes to the Brush Creek stage October 14-30

Brush Creek is very pleased to be able to bring The Bat to our stage — director Norman Gouveia and his cast are hard at work bringing this classic to the stage for its October opening. The show will include 3 performances each weekend from Friday, October 14 through Sunday, October 30, with performances at 7 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 pm on Sundays.

In this popular American mystery play, incident is piled on incident with skill and plausibility, and it is impossible to know who the real criminal is until the final curtain. This thriller revolves around Cornelia Van Gorder, a maiden lady of sixty, who rents the summer home of a banker reported killed in Colorado. She is warned that mysterious things are happening, but she refuses to move. Then it is discovered that a large sum is missing from the dead man’s bank, and it is suspected that, far from being dead, he stole the money, hid it in a secret chamber in his house and is only waiting for a chance to sneak back to get it. Four others are after the money: the bank cashier who is wrongfully accused of taking it, a detective engaged by Miss Van Gorder to clear up the mystery, a doctor friend and supposed confederate of the missing banker and The Bat, a notorious thief who has long eluded the police. This genuine thriller is guaranteed to divert any audience.

Brush Creek launches “GoFundMe” to restore exterior

Brush Creek Players are up and running again after the pandemic (thank you, all, for your continued support!). As always, we are able to cover our operating expenses through ticket sales — it is all about the audiences after all!
But keeping our 125-year-old building fit and trim takes extra work. Although it has been only 10 years since we restored the outside (including a new foundation and restored siding), it is very much in need of several coats of fresh paint (and a thorough roof cleaning). To do the job right, we need $20,000 (anything we raise beyond what we need for the building restoration will remain in the building fund for other important projects). The picture at the top of the page sort of describes the “once and future” playhouse — it looked that way just a few years ago, and it soon will look that way again! But at the moment…..
We need to tackle the paint (and give the roof a good cleaning as well), SO we are tapping GoFundMe for the first time in our history as a way to reach out to our friends and supporters. Remember, your contribution to BCP — unlike some other GoFundMe donations — remains a contribution to a 501-c-3 charity for tax purposes!
You can of course still contribute by mail at P.O. Box 716, Silverton, OR 97381 (please, NEVER send anything to the BCP street address). But GoFundMe is more convenient for you, and their fees are pretty reasonable — they are exactly what we would pay for credit processing if we sent you an electronic invoice to pay by credit card. So feel free to use the link below if you would like to help us out.

Brush Creek continues 2022 with long-time favorite “Snow White” from June 10-26

Brush Creek is continuing the 2022 season with the return of one of our biggest crowd-pleasers, The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White, directed by Linda Zellner.

The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White is Michael Wood’s adaptation of the classic tale, performed by arrangement with Evander Dramatic Press.

The beautiful and innocent princess, hated and pursued by the vain and evil queen, touches the heart of even the most suspicious of the dwarfs when she stumbles across them in the forest. But the queen is not done with her yet!

Brush Creek has performed this particular play twice before, and the productions were so well received by audience and cast alike that they even led to a sequel! We are very excited about our 2022 production of this delightful tale!

Every character in the play has his or her moment to shine, from the most innocent of the dwarfs to the castle steward!

Tickets go on sale June 4 — as always, tickets are just $10 ($8 for children 12 and under, seniors 60 and older, and students with ID). They can be purchased in advance at either of our ticket-selling partners:
